2014 Readers' Favorite International Book Award Contest - Honorable Mention

Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Winners Have Been Announced!

And Flapjack and Dan are so excited!!!

Debra Gaynor, Readers’ Favorite president, shared, “This was our largest contest ever and competition was fierce.”  So, Flapjack and Dan were thrilled when they were notified that their second book in the series, The Adventures of Flapjack – The Collar of Courage, was selected as a finalist in three categories in the 2014 Readers’ Favorite annual International Award Contest!  They were:
  • Children General
  • Children Grade K-3rd, and
  • Children Picture/Pop-up!

When winners of the Book Contest and the Illustrator Award were announced on September 1st, Flapjack and Dan were equally honored to hear that The Adventures of FlapjackThe Collar of Courage, received the Honorable Mention award in Children – Picture/Pop-up Category.  Although Lisa Norman, the book’s illustrator, did not win the Readers’ Favorite Illustrator award, the Honorable Mention award was earned in great part due to her talent in being able to capture the book’s essence and bring the written words to life.

You may think they were a bit disappointed not having won the Gold, Silver or Bronze award, but they couldn’t help but be reminded of dialog from the Coen brothers’ movie, Fargo, regarding a certain three-cent stamp.  Those of you who love the movie, know what they mean (see dialog below).  And, they think it’s terrific!

– Norm Gunderson: They announced it.
– Marge Gunderson: They announced it?
– Norm Gunderson: Yeah.
– Marge Gunderson: So?
– Norm Gunderson: Three-cent stamp.
– Marge Gunderson: Your mallard?
– Norm Gunderson: Yeah.
– Marge Gunderson: Oh, that’s terrific.
– Norm Gunderson: It’s just a three-cent stamp.
– Marge Gunderson: It’s terrific.
– Norm Gunderson: Hautman’s blue-winged teal got the 29-cent. People don’t much use the three-cent.
– Marge Gunderson: Oh, for Pete’s sake. Of course they do. Whenever they raise the postage, people need the little stamps.
